DOORS email

Background:
I work for a defense contractor, and would like to setup DOORS such that it can email users. I have been able to get DOORS v9.x to email, BUT the our virus protection (McAfee) will not let door.exe to use port 25. Our IT policies are handed down from Corporate and I could get an exception to the policy on a single computer (i.e. if the server sent the email) but getting IT to change the whole policy would be next to impossible.

Questions:
Does anyone have any ideas that would allow me to programmatically tunnel through the DOORS connection to the server and email from the server?

If this is not a possibility, do you have any other ideas to use a 'bridge' between DOORS and the server?

I have been able to 'piggyback' on Outlook, but again there might be some corporate issues there, not sure yet. This method is still using the individual computer and I would prefer to email from the server if possible. If I can accomplish this I could email at certain times using active dxl columns and triggers.

Thanks

How are you having the email sent? The server sends out email on port 25. How are you getting the users to send out email on port 25 of their PCs? The default DXL implementation of DOORS emails don't have the clients send the email, but rather have the server send the email.

To answer your question though, you can use Outlook and/or you can email through the server.

You are mistaken. The email is sent client side not server side. Believe me I have been on and off the phone and in and out of emails with IBM for the last month on this issue.....not the best experience of my life. That is my whole issue, I want/think that the email should be sent server side but it is not.

You didn't answer my question. How are you having the email sent? Are you using DXL? What's the DXL call if so? If not, what exactly are you doing to have an email sent?

It is a built in function DOORS provides in the CPS system, so it should be DXL, I don't know what the code is. I did find somewhere on the DOORS forums how to connect to Outlook via DXL and send an email that way, but Outlook thinks you are spam.

The CPS system sends out emails from the client. If you cannot send an email via the DXL function sendEMailNotification, CPS won't be able to send it either.

See the DXL discussion thread for more <http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=14445841>
